SINK OR SWIM?

The people have got to know

Can we trust a crook?

I hope you have your fishing poles,

A lure, a net, a hook

This boat is treading water,

Crashing with the sea,

Tension against the bearings,

Pressure grows fiercely

The people from the shore,

In darkness look like tar,

Or could it be this boat,

that is drifting much too far?

Is it too late for the captain,

To understand this war?

In the middle of the ocean

The only way is up, or the sandy ocean floor

He stands in the cold,

Warmed by the thought of his allies,

He needs a team,

Liars, thieves, and the best spies

To the east, the nearby right,

A large towboat is in view,

Commanders Hunt and Liddy,

Who know just what to do!

With land at a distance,

The treasure in their reach,

Now with a new gemstone,

They need to steal and breach

Captain Nixon knows who must join his plan,

A lifeboat of small size,

Barker, Gonzales, Martinez, Sturigis, and McCord,

With bait hidden in disguise,

Racing towards the capital,

Bugs and sturdy tape,

What they do not realize,

A crack is taking shape

Rocks pose as jagged obstacles,

They make it out for now,

Listening all the while,

They redirect the bow

Soon they feel it breaking,

Not the waters nor the tide,

The boat has sprung a leak!

More bugs they now must hide

What they can not see,

They have made a grave mistake,

Wills is catching on,

Press are there, awake

The lighthouse is growing bright,

The keepers are from the post,

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein,

Working hard to inform the coast

Arrest these men, they shout!

Nixon’s men are put behind bars,

The captain’s ship still unwavering,

Re-election, nothing more than scars

Anchored for a spell,

The horizon reads a trial?

The light is catching up,

Quick! Use the nets of denial

The hearings will not save you,

Do you sink or swim?

Chances of finding land?

Well they are looking slim

The truth is like a raft,

A raft with a hole,

Drowning in near future,

Is just out of Nixion’s control

Conversations are collected,

They have the smoking gun,

You rock here in the ocean,

You have no time now to run!

Abuse, Justice, and Congress,

Looks like he’s impeached,

A captain is nothing more,

Than the people on the beach

It is an end for thirty seven,

Hello to Gerald Ford,

Stay close to the truth,

Grounded, and do not follow overboard.
